10 signs you might be a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP)

The beach near me, showing now the sea can be calm and yet it can be stormy, just like us as human beings.

Highly Sensitive People (HSPs) were born with a nervous system that is much more sensitive than others’ systems, so here are 10 signs to help you find out whether you are an HSP.

1.       Because of your more sensitive nervous system, you have stronger reactions with your senses.

Sounds can affect your body, so it may be painful to listen to unpleasant or irritating noises or calming when you hear a beautiful piece of music.

Smells can be overpowering as can certain perfumes that people wear.

2.       You can be startled easily.

When someone comes up to you from behind, even if you know them well, this can be a shock to your system and you may not react how they were expecting you would.

3.       You are easily overwhelmed in busy places

Whether it’s in the shops, the office or a night out with friends, too many people around you may cause you discomfort.

4.       The above happens because you pick up on others’ energies

Too many people around is just too many energies for you and your nervous system to handle.

5.       Because of this, you need to take frequent time out and spend it alone away from others.

It’s a chance for you to regroup, reconnect with your own energy and calm yourself.

6.       Even without many people around, the world can seem overwhelming for you.

The current world situation may affect you strongly.

Wearing a mask, having an injection, being ill or in hospital or seeing your friends and loved ones suffer can all take their toll on your anxiety levels.

It can take you weeks to get over what you may have witnessed.

7.       You’re extremely aware of time passing.

You are sensitive to deadlines and may feel you have too much to do in too little time.

This may also show itself as a fear of death or, rather, a fear of not having done everything in your life that you want to have done.

8.       Your mind is always busy.

You may struggle to sleep at night because of your thoughts racing.

You think deeply and thoughtfully.

9.       You yearn for a deep and meaningful life, one that fulfils you and that you love.

You may be a spiritual seeker, wanting to live your life on purpose and aligned with your values.

You may think about the deeper meaning of life, about who you are and why you are on this earth at this time.

10.   You may have difficulty letting go of something that has come to an end or needs to end.

You may have trouble moving on and may want to hang on to something, even if it doesn’t serve your highest self.

If any of these are true for you, then you may be an HSP. If so, then rest assured, you are welcome here.

Do not walk in front of me, I may not follow. Do not walk behind me, I may not lead. Just walk beside me and be my friend.
